The National Health Society was established in 1871 through the initiative of Elizabeth Blackwell, and as the name suggests, aimed to spread contemporary knowledge about public health. John Hill Burton, Historiographist Royal for Scotland, and author of the 'The Book hunter' was born in Aberdeen in 1809 and died in Edinburgh in 1881.
